Solar Heating Systems

Clean Tech

Problem

Rural areas in Indian Himalayan mountains are facing grave a energy crisis. High dependence on fuel wood due to cold climate poses a potential threat to the ecology, health of household inmates, and involves women partaking in the drudgerous process of fuel wood/ dung collection.

Solution

Local artisan fabricated mountain solar water and space heating systems, customized as per the needs of the remote marginal mountain community in Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) with the Core Support Programme of Department of Science and Technology (DST) Govt. of India. This can save an average 40% fuel wood and dung in mountain households leading to mitigation of carbon emission, indoor pollution, women drudgery with livelihood opportunities for local artisans.

Brief description

HRG designed and fabricated solar water and space heating panels of locally available material through the training of rural artisans (carpenters). Solar panels are fabricated with wood frame, window glass and innovative carbon paint to absorb maximum sun energy for water and space heating. In higher altitudes, the sun is brighter (>250 sunny days/year) and more intense during the winter, than in the plains.
