About AGNII

The AGNIi Mission is a programme of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, executed in partnership with Invest India; one of nine under the Prime Minister’s Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC). AGNIi partners with pioneering government agencies to formulate emerging technology responses answering some of India’s toughest challenges: ecological sustainability and climate change, public safety and security, agriculture and livelihood. These would be capable of scaling, emulation, or replication for wider impact.

Our Work Themes

Climate Change

India has committed itself to the fight to mitigate climate change. Indians will be affected by the damage climate change can inflict. AGNIi is collaborating with pioneering government agencies to identify, and establish examples of, how Indian technology can help India mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Public Security

AGNIi works with pathbreaking law enforcement and security agencies to identify how Indian technology can help them safeguard India’s citizens from a range of threats. We also work with government on how Indian innovation can boost disaster management and rescue capabilities – crucial to preparing for and mitigating local and national moments of crisis.

Human Development

Indian citizens’ well-being depends on access to development capabilities across multiple dimensions – from livelihood to health infrastructure. AGNIi works with partners to identify and demonstrate how Indian technological innovation – from innovative construction techniques for rapid community infrastructure, to artificial intelligence for agricultural livelihood – can make those capabilities available to citizens, empowering them more and faster.

Emerging Frontiers

Indian technology startups and laboratories build world-class innovation in domains from artificial intelligence to climate tech. This pool of capability open up new frontiers and use cases, transforming the nature of existing challenges. The AGNIi Mission is committed to engaging these emerging frontiers of Indian technological advancement. We engage with Indian innovators in startups or laboratories, to explore how their technological capabilities can engage problems India is trying to solve.

Policy

The AGNIi Mission services the National Technology Led and Deep Tech Startup Policy Consortium, notified by the Office of PSA on the recommendation of the Prime Minister’s Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC). The effort focuses on understanding the challenges India’s deep tech startup ecosystem faces, and specific interventions it needs.
